Building Consortia and Working in Partnerships

Find out about forming consortia and partnerships in order to bid for public service contracts

NCB’s one-day introductory course is aimed at children and young people's voluntary and community (VCS) organisations who are looking to form consortia and partnerships in order to be able to bid for public service contracts.

Why attend?

The training has been developed in response to the new political and funding environment and will give you:

  • Practical ideas and tips.
  • Policy context and the rationale behind partnerships and consortia.
  • The benefits and the pitfalls to partnership and consortia.
  • Examples of different models allowing you to consider the best match for your organisation.
  • Case studies of successful partnerships and consortia.
  • Action planning for the future and practical tools to check if your organisation is ready.

The day is also a great chance to network with other children and young people’s organisations interested in partnerships and consortia. See below for training aims and learning outcomes.

The training will take place from 10.00 - 16.00 and lunch will be provided.
The training takes place at Voluntary Action Swindon, 1 John Street, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN1 1RT.

Who should attend?

The course is a one-day introductory course targeted at children and young people’s voluntary and community organisations, charities and social enterprises with little or no experience of working in partnership and building consortia.

Delegates must have an understanding of commissioning, gained either through attending NCB's Successful Commissioning course, experience or alternative training.

Further course information

The training has been designed to be participatory and enjoyable, including a range of exercises that will enable delegates to share and draw on the group's collective experience. It also provides an opportunity for organisations within the same region who work with children and young people to network and build relationships.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course participants will have:

  • A pack of materials, publications, support.
  • Fully understood the benefits of partnerships and consortia working in the commissioning process.
  • Gained new methods and approaches to working in partnership and consortia.
  • Developed an initial action plan for each participant.
  • Completed a partnership and consortia working checklist.
  • Increased their confidence and capabilities to develop partnerships and consortia.

What does it cost?

FREE to voluntary and community sector organisations, charities and social enterprises.
£175 to statutory sector employees and private companies.

Each training day is open to 20 delegates, and places are booked on a first come, first served basis.

Cancellation policy
This training is free but failure to alert NCB to a cancellation within 24 hours of the start of the event may result in an administration charge of £50. Please let NCB know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend so that we can offer your place to somebody from the waiting list.
